Chester le Street Civic Choir presented a ‘Christmas Concert’ at Chester le Street Methodist Church on Saturday, 3rd December 2022.
The choir was conducted by Philip Dixon with Julie Lawrence as accompanist.
The concert opened with a selection of pieces including 'Go Tell It on the Mountain', 'Ding Dong Merrily on High', 'Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind' and 'The The First Noel/Pachabel's Canon'. They were followed by a congregational carol, 'O Little Town of Bethlehem'. The next selection included 'The King of Kings', 'And His Name Shall Be Called Wonderful' and 'How Lovely are the Messengers'. After a reading and solo, the first half closed with a selection including 'God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen', 'The Shepherds' Farewell', 'The Crown of Roses' and 'O Holy Night'.
The second half opened with a selection including 'Deck the Hall', 'Save the Child', 'This Glorious Night' and 'Rejoice with Exceeding Great Joy'. After the congregational hymn, 'While Shepherds Watched their Flock' and a duet, the Choir presented a selection including 'In the Bleak Mid Winter', 'See Amid the Winter's Snow', 'Coventry Carol' and Linda Chapman's arrangement of 'O Holy Night'.
The finale to the concert was 'Bethlehem'.
